IN HIS PRESENCE (Part One)
Prayer Point - Students should ask the Lord to help them abide in God’s presence always.
Previous Knowledge - Teacher asks students to mention benefits which they derived from the last lesson of the Sunday school. Teacher examines the assignment for last lesson and comments accordingly"

A. BIBLE PASSAGE - Matthew 6: 5-15

B. Memory Verse - "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and,ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: “Matthew 7:1."       

C. Lesson Introduction -It is a common practice to lock up valuables in special rooms and with special keys. Where to keep these valuables, whether in the outer rooms or in the inner strong rooms, 'depends on how valuable they are to you. Though there are different keys to these rooms, there is a master key, however, that is available to the master of the house to unlock at will any of the doors to these, rooms. Today, we will begin to examine the spiritual master key at the house to unlock doors to answers to petitions of God's children, that is, prayer:

B. Teaching Objectives and Lesson Plan
At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
­i. Understand what prayer is
ii. Discover why we should pray.
iii. Determine the right place and time of prayer.
To achieve these objectives, teacher defines what prayer is. Teacher also explains the composition of the prayer of the believers. Teacher mentions reasons Christians should ray.
Teacher mentions when and where to pray.
Teacher concludes by encouraging students' to pray according to God's will always.

C. Text Review - Matthew6: 5-15 Guide for effective prayer

i. Do not pray like the hypocrites in the corner of the street, so that men can see you Matt. € .

ii. Pray to God in your closet and He will reward you in the open. Matt. 6:6
iii. Do not use vain repetitions during your prayer like the heathen. Matt6:7a
iv. Praise and worship His holy name. Matt 6:9

v. Ask for forgiveness for your sin (which you have confessed). Matt 6:11-12

vi. Ask Him for your daily provisions which include food, victory over sin and devil. Matt. 6: 13
vii. Bless Him for His eternal kingdom, power and glory. V13b

D. Teaching Method – Teacher should use question teaching method.

E. Time Management - 15 minutes for Opening, 30 minutes for Lesson Outline, Summary, Conclusion and Assignment, 15 minutes for General Review.

2. Lesson Outlines
i. LESSON OUTLINE 1 WHAT IS PRAYER?
What is prayer?
Ans  It is the soul of man talking to God.
ii. It is worship addressed to God the Father in the name of the God the Son and through the Holy Spirit. Acts 12:5; John 14:13; Eph. 6: 18; Romans 8: 26-27
Q2. What are the major components of prayer?
Ans. Adoration Praise and worship unto God for His mercy, kindness, power, faithfulness and just.
ii. Confession and repentance from sins. This includes washing in the blood Jesus from all forms of sins.   
It also involves repeated washing in the blood of Jesus. It is a spiritual cleansing procedure.
iii.   Thanksgiving- It is showing gratitude or appreciation for what God has done and for what He will do. Phil. 4:6 Supplication this involves:
- Intercession, requests, petitions and desires.
- They are addressed to God in faith.
- They are directed in the name of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. I Timothy 2: 1

Class Activity 1- Students should mention reasons they must thank God.
ii. LESSON OUTLINE 2 - WHY SHOULD WE PRAY?

i. Because God commands believers to pray. Luke 18: 11; Thess.5: 17; I Chronicle 16: 11; James 5: 13; Psalm 50: 15

ii. Jesus prayed and expected us to pray. Mark 1:35, Luke 6: 12
iii.   The Apostles and the early Church prayed-Acts 9: 23-31; Eph. 1:15­20; Co14: 12; Acts 12:5-6
iv.   The Patriatch, e.g Moses, Elijah, Elisha etc Exodus 15:23-25, Matt.26:39-42; Psalm 51:1-2; I Kings 18: 37-39; James 5:17-18

CONCLUSION - We have just discovered some fundamental truths about the master key, especially the aspects of when and where to apply it. Let us, therefore, act now and present all our petitions to God in the name of Jesus Christ. It is certain that He will answer accordingly to His perfect will for us.

Prayer Point - O Lord, Please hear all my prayers in this session.
Previous Knowledge - Teacher asks students to share with the class what they benefitted from the previous week's lesson. Teacher marks the students' workbooks and makes necessary remarks/corrections.

1. Opening

A. BIBLE PASSAGE - Philippians 4:4-9 B

B. Memory Verse - "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." Philippians 4:6

C. Lesson Introduction - In our last study, considerations were given to the definition of prayer, reasons for praying and where and when to pray. Hopefully, most of us should have cultivated the regular attitude of prayer by now, as we consider other aspects of prayer today. May the Holy Spirit help us even as we continue in our studies on the master key, prayer.

B. Teaching Objectives and Lesson Plan

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to understand what to pray for.
i. They should also be able to discover how to pray.
ii. They should be able to identify some factors that may prevent prayers from being answered.
To achieve these objectives, teacher should enumerate those things which students should pray for.
Teacher should explain major reasons some prayers are not answered.
Teacher allows students to carry out their two class activities and concludes by encouraging students to pray the more in holiness with assurance of receiving answers.

C. Text Review – Philippians 4:4-9

Additional basic requirements for answered prayer are presented in today’s Bible passage.

  1. Rejoice before the Lord in your prayer. Phil. 4:4
  2. Be moderate before all men (women inclusive) v.5
  3. Let Christ carry your burden in prayer if you have deposited them to Him. Do not worry again. Let Him handle the matter. V6
  4. Make your requests though prayer, supplication and thanksgiving. V.6
  5. Pray under the following conditions: Truth, honesty, justice, purity, love, good report, virtue and heart of thanksgiving. Prayer under these conditions would likely produce desired result.
  6. Teaching Method – Teacher should use question and answer teaching method.
  7.   Time Management – 15 minutes for Opening, 30 minutes for Lesson Outline, Summary, Conclusion and Assignment, 15 minutes for General Review.

Class Activity 2- What are the factors that could lead to praying amiss?

Summary: Godliness and openness to God are key factors to enhance effective prayer (which produces result)

Conclusion: Has any of your prayers been answered? Do you enjoy talking to the Almighty God? God enjoys listening to you as you talk to Him. Any sinner is privileged too to pray a simple prayer that God should be merciful to him or her.
